The heart of the physiotherapy profession is understanding how and why movement and function take place. Physiotherapists are highly skilled and autonomous health professionals who provide safe, quality client-centered care through a commitment to service availability, accessibility and excellence. Physiotherapy is a holistic approach anchored in movement sciences which aims to restore and enhance function of multiple body systems. The profession is committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life.

Physiotherapy sessions focus on properly assessing your unique challenges and concerns. Assessment is key to diagnosis and successful treatment. Education will help you understand what is happening in your body, how we will approach the problem, and what you can do to optimize mobility, physical activity and overall health and wellness.

Treatment generally uses a variety of different approaches, including active movement, soft tissue techniques, manual therapy and mobilization, needling (see IMS and Acupuncture), taping, bracing and exercise prescription.

General goals of physiotherapy include:
Promoting optimal mobility, physical activity and overall health and wellness;
Preventing disease, injury, and disability;
Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions;
Improving and maintaining optimal functional independence and physical performance;
Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability with therapeutic exercise programs and other interventions;
Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.
